The construction industry is changing. As credit lines tighten up the buying and selling of used heavy equipment especially items like bulldozers are becoming more popular than ever. Buying new pieces of equipment can make or break a project or a small company. But buying used bulldozers is not a hobby for the faint of heart. If you need a crawler or bulldozer, than you should read this article to learn what to look for in when you buy at a used bulldozer sale.

Used Bulldozer Sale Guide

Buying a second-hand or bulldozer at a used bulldozer sale can be a really good money saving idea. The money you will keep for your company or organization can instantly go back into the bottom-line. But you need to take under consideration a few concerns when thinking about buying any type of used heavy machinery.

1.Seller or dealer reputation. The first thing you should do is investigate the reputation of the seller or dealer involved in the sale. Make certain that you are working with trustworthy and reliable people.

2.Manufacturer reputation. You should only buy used bulldozers from world-class makers like Caterpillar, Komatsu or Volvo. By only buying from well known manufacturers you are certain to have an reliable source of spare parts, manuals and technicians who can work on your machine.

3. Condition. Since bulldozers are the most commonly used piece of heavy equipment on almost any job site, you need to thoroughly check out the condition of the bulldozer and all its accessories and attachments.

4.Maintenance History. The next item you need to research is the actual repair and maintenance history or schedule of the machine. No matter how affordable it may seem, it is no bargain if it was not properly cared for and repaired. Get copies of any warranties, repair guarantees, etc.

5.Check it out in person. That used crawler may look great in that photo, but as you know it's a lemon as soon as you look at it "face-to-face" Nothing can beat a live inspection. Check it out from top to bottom. Crawl under the belly, climb into the cab and give a test drive if possible.

6.Know what engine size you need. Bulldozers are really just big metal blades mounted in front of powerful engines. The most common machines have engines from 100 to 240 hp (horsepower) and this probably all that an average construction company would use.

7.Physical size matters. Usually the more powerful the bulldozer the bigger "footprint" or overall size it has. So depending on the location where you will use it, you probably are going to have to strike a compromise between its hp power vs. its size.

8.Know what blade type you need. The further away a blade is mounted on the body of the crawler, the more visibility the operator has from the cab but slower reaction time they will have. The opposite is true when the blade is mounted close to the body frame, the better the response time but the less area is visible from the cab.

Take the above mentioned tips into consideration when going to a used bulldozer sale.
